Emilia has worked with high school students on their college applications’ personal statements and supplemental essays for four years. The personal statement section of the college application is the one place where a student is able to communicate, in their own words, an important element of their identity that may not be apparent elsewhere in their application.
Through a series of one-on-one sessions, Emilia helps her students brainstorm, plan, write, and edit an essay that reflects who they are and helps them stand out within an applicant pool. She also assists with school-specific supplemental essay prompts, helping students tailor their responses to each college.
While the ultimate goal of the essays is to secure acceptance at the right college, the entire process is also an opportunity for students to reflect on themselves, what they’ve learned so far, and what they would like to accomplish in the years to come.
Introspection is valuable at every stage of life. Because students are experiencing so much change and growth in such a short amount of time as they transition from adolescence to adulthood, it’s particularly important to step back and really examine themselves and their goals toward the end of high school.
Student testimonial:
“I want to thank you for all your help in writing my supplemental essays for college. The many revisions that you sent to me allowed me to get into the UMass Amherst Honors College, which I will be attending next school year.
I also got into Northeastern University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Stevens Institute of Technology, Binghamton University, University of Vermont, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Institute of Technology, University of Connecticut, and Rochester Institute of Technology. I doubt that I would have been able to get into these colleges without your help.”
